School Holiday Activities

Happy First Birthday!

The NMDC celebrated its first birthday during the April school holidays with fun for the whole family.

As well as exploring our vibrant displays and getting 'hands-on' at the rock pool and touch table, visitors were able to colour-in their own souvenir badge; get their face painted with their favourite sea creature such as a turtle, seahorse, sea star or shark; and participate in two new school holiday activities!

Face Painting

In Sea Monkeys Rock, participants discovered all sorts of interesting facts about sea monkeys (also known as Artemia or brine shrimp)...who would have thought that these fascinating little creatures had eleven pairs of legs, three eyes and could breathe through their feet! After examining them under the microscope, participants then made their very own hatchery to take their new pets home.

The second new activity for the school holidays was Coral Creations. In this activity, participants explored some of the potential threats to our precious coral reefs. With their new-found knowledge, participants then 'got creative' to design and paint their very own environmentally-friendly carry bag.

Planning has commenced for the July school holidays and information about these activities will be available in the next edition of On the Current, but be quick to book as these activities fill quickly!
